Chrome Beta for Android updated with Chromecast support

Chrome-beta-for-android

Chrome Beta for Android has been updated with a nice feature many of you might enjoy. As of version 34, users can now stream video to Chromecast from the web. This is a feature that has only been available from a browser with the desktop version of Chrome (you can even do it with embedded videos now), making it a big step for mobile enthusiasts.

The feature seems to work best with YouTube, but other services that support Chromecast should work as well. It’s important to not that this is still an experimental feature. As such, it does not work perfectly, but at least we know the feature should be coming to Chrome for Android in the near future.

Like many other experimental features, Chromecast support is not automatically activated.

How to activate Chromecast support on Chrome Beta for Android

  • Open Chrome Beta for Android.
  • Type chrome://flags/#enable-cast in the Omnibar and press enter.
  • Enable the “Enable Cast” feature.
  • Relaunch Chrome Beta.

After that, you can go ahead and test YouTube’s website. It seems to be a bit buggy – sometimes you don’t see the Cast button in some pages. But it seems to work a lot of other times. It may not be perfect, but at least we know the feature is coming. Check it out and let us know how it works for you!

Thanks, Henry!
