Zelda Wii U will feature a “unique art style”

Wii U ZeldaAccording to Zelda producer Eiji Anouma, the upcoming Wii U Zelda game (and no, we’re not talking about the Wind Waker HD remake), will feature a unique art style that hasn’t been seen before in the Zelda series.

Anouma said that they’re looking to do something original and unique when it comes to the gameplay and the visuals with the new Zelda game on the Wii U. He said in a recent interview:

“The thing about Zelda is we want everything to be unique, whether it’s the graphical presentation or the gameplay”

He added that Nintendo isn’t interested in making it a realistic looking game, as everyone else is doing that these days. Also, he rules out a “cartoony-realistic” game. Instead, they’re focusing on originality with Zelda on the Wii U:

“It has to be something you can’t see anywhere else. We wouldn’t want it to be ultra-realistic because you can see that elsewhere. But I can’t say that it’s going to be cartoony-realistic like you mentioned, the fantastic presentation that we’ve already done in the past. It will be something new.”

Despite the struggling Wii U, it’s great to see that Nintendo isn’t giving up on its core values of making great and original games. The new Zelda Wii U game won’t be done for at least another year.

Anouma also briefly touched on DLC for Zelda, saying that it’s something they’re looking into, but that they prefer to ship a game with all the contents available.

While it may take a while before we get the first true Zelda Wii U game, Wii U owners will be able to enjoy the HD remake of Wind Waker, which will be available this October.
