We recently posted a list of confirmed Wii U launch titles, and we probably should have added one more to the list as “highly likely”: Pikmin 3. The game has been in development since 2008, and at E3 last year, Shigeru Miyamoto revealed that Pikmin 3 would be moved from the Wii to the Wii U. This could be the big Nintendo first party launch title that everyone has been expecting. Last week, Miyamoto said in an interview that Pikmin 3 will be showcased at E3 2012.
Pikmin is a strategy game where the player controls small Pikmin’s and has to command them to retrieve parts for his spaceship so he can leave the planet. Pikmin is one of Nintendo’s newer franchises and has so far seen two games, both released on the GameCube. They were re-released on the Wii a few years ago. Pikmin 3 seems like a sure bet as a Wii U launch title for Nintendo, as there probably isn’t any better game to showcase the new controller than a top-down 3D strategy game like Pikmin.
