“OK Google” – Google Conversational Voice Search is finally here! (beta)

We have been waiting for Google’s Conversational Voice Search since Google IO and can’t be happier to announce it’s finally here! It’s still in beta, but Chrome users can now head to the Chrome Web Store and download an extension to activate the new feature.

The extension goes by the name of Google Voice Search Hotword (Beta), and it’s sole purpose is to bring Conversational Voice Search. All you need to do is download it and you are ready to go. After that, simply head to Google or the “New Tab” page, where there is a search function as well.

I went ahead and gave it a roll just to see how well it works. It’s in beta, so I did find it has slight issues sometimes. As you can see in the video, sometimes it activates by just saying “OK”, which is not convenient. It also has issues recognizing certain words, but that could very well just be my voice, accent or speaking habits.

The service should be getting better in due time. The conversational features work and I am glad I can now search from across the room. You can all test it by simply downloading it straight from the Chrome Web Store.

All you need to do is install the extension and head to Google.com. It also works from the New Tab’s search bar, which is quite neat. Give it a try and let us know how well it works for you. And don’t forget to tip us with any other major issues or awesome features you may find!

Also, here is the official video. Just some nice eye candy!
