Shigeru Myamoto talks about the Wii U, Zelda, and more

Miyamoto Wii uIn a recent interview with European game magazine GameReactor, Nintendo legend Shigeru Miyamoto shared some thoughts on the upcoming Wii U console, online multiplayer, and even the upcoming Zelda Wii U game.

Miyamoto said that Nintendo doesn’t believe they “fell behind” on online multiplayer, and that now is the correct time for Nintendo to go online. Nintendo has been criticized for years for not having a proper online infrastructure and their lack of focus on online gaming. Most of the key first party Nintendo Wii U games like New Super Mario Bros U, Nintendo Land, and Pikmin 3, do not feature online multiplayer.

He also mentioned that the team at Retro Studios could work on a Zelda game, but the story and gameplay design would still be done in Japan. Retro Studios has been rumored to be working on a Wii U Metroid game for a while now.

Finally, Miyamoto commented on the new iPad mini, saying that its screen size (7.9″) is an indication that Nintendo made the right decision with the GamePad screen size and design. The GamePad features a 6.2 inch touchscreen, which does not support multitouch, but has many other advanced features.
