Miyamoto: “things aren’t easy for Nintendo”

Miyamoto Wii UNintendo legend Shigeru Miyamoto recently spoke to Japanese game site 4Gamer, where he admitted that Nintendo is struggling with the Wii U. Specifically, Miyamoto said that Nintendo faced some issues when creating games for an HD console, saying “we had a lot of trouble with the shaders in HD”. This is why Pikmin 3 and Wii Fit U have been delayed.

Miyamoto also admitted Nintendo’s troubles with Wii U sales, putting it frankly: “things aren’t easy for Nintendo and the Wii U hasn’t been selling too well”. He added that he hoped Wii U sales would “catch up” this Summer, and that there is plenty for Wii U owners to look forward to, including Super Mario 3D World and Mario Kart 8.

In a recent interview, Miyamoto said that his “new franchise” was keeping him busy at Nintendo.

While Nintendo is struggling with weak Wii U sales and poor financial performance, company president Satoru Iwata doesn’t believe that letting employees go is the right strategy. Last week, Iwata said that he is against laying off employees to get into profitability.

Nintendo recently released Pikmin 3 in Japan, and hopefully this will spark Wii U sales, both in Japan and in the rest of the world when the game is released.
