Zelda: Breath of the Wild, the most anticipated game of 2017, has officially gone gold. Which means the game has finished development and is now off to manufacturing.
And in the case of the Nintendo Switch, that means it’s off to be loaded onto a whole bunch of memory cards. For the Wii U, it’s off to the standard disc-pressing manufacturing.
The news was revealed by Monolith Soft developer Yasuyuki Honne, who attended a warp-party for the game in Japan. The party was attended by the game’s developers (there were over 300 of them working on the game) and by Nintendo legends like Shigeru Miyamoto.
Of course, just because the game has “gone gold” and off to manufacturing doesn’t mean that it’s complete — these days most games have a day-one patch ready, which means that a part of the team still works on fixing the last few issues.
It’s unknown if Breath of the Wild will have a day-one patch. Nintendo usually doesn’t release day-one patches to its games because they tend to launch in a pretty polished state.
But a future update might add new features, such as HD rumble which the game lacks.
