Playtonic Games unveils Yooka-Laylee, the spritual successor to Banjo-Kazooie

Earlier this year Playtonic Games teased that it was working on a project it considered the spiritual successor to Rare’s popular Banjo-Kazooie series. With talent on board from past Rare games such as Banjo-Kazooie and Donkey Kong Country, many Nintendo fans have been extra hyped about the big reveal. The new game is called Yooka-Laylee (get it?) and features Yooka the chameleon and Laylee the bat. Much like the Banjo-Kazooie games, players will control both animals and will need to use the special abilities of both in order to get through the level.

Yooka can use his tongue as a grappling hook in order to get to hard to reach places, while Laylee has the ability to fly and carry Yooka over small distances or obstacles. She can also unleash sonar blasts.

If the game looks appealing to you so far and you’re interested in the final project, there’s good news. Playtonic Games is launching the Kickstarter funding effort for the game on May 1. For a pledge of $15, you’ll receive a copy of the game. If you think the game looks good enough to invest more money, there are extra backer goodies like the soundtrack, art book, and a demade 64 bit version of the game that will make the game appear like a classic Nintendo 64 game.

The team has announced they’re targetting Wii U, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC depending on the amount of funding they receive, so if you want this game on Wii U, you may want to consider funding the project when it launches tomorrow.
