With the release of Rare Replay, a new collection of the past 30 years of Rare’s history as a game developer, the Xbox one now officially has more Nintendo 64 games available on it than the Wii U. The titles available in the Rare Replay collection include:
- Banjo-Kazooie
- Banjo-Tooie
- Conker’s Bad Fur Day
- Killer Instinct Gold
- Jet Force Gemini
- Blast Corps
- Perfect Dark
So how many Nintendo 64 games are available on the Wii U? Only six so far and there’s zero overlap with the games that are available on the Xbox One. The N64 Wii U titles available include:
- The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
- Super Mario 64
- Paper Mario
- Donkey Kong 64
- Mario Tennis
- Kirby 64
It should be mentioned that there are several more games available through the Wii backwards compatibility mode, but given that those games are poorly optimized for being played on the Wii U, they might as well not even be available. You can’t use the GamePad to play them and they don’t show up as individual icons in the system menu, like games that have had a proper port.
Xbox fans can enjoy those classic N64 games and 23 more for only $30, while Nintendo still charges $8 per Nintendo 64 game. Perhaps its time for Nintendo to reconsider its virtual console business model, when the competition is giving so much away for a much better price. What do you think?
