Wii U price is more important than being first on the market

Wii U price
While Nintendo will have about a one year head start in the next gen console battle, being first to the market isn’t important to the company. What is much more important for Nintendo is the Wii U price, says company el presidente Satoru Iwata in an interview. Speaking about the market aspects and the Wii U price, Iwata said:

“Being first in the next generation race is not important at all. The Wii U pricing is going to be one of the most important elements”.

Iwata added that the gaming industry is different today than it was back when the Wii launched in 2006. Home consoles are facing much stiffer competition from mobile and casual games, and on top of that, the world economy isn’t what it used to be. Nintendo will reveal the Wii U price this Fall.

Nintendo has made it clear over the past months that they’re taking the Wii U price situation very seriously. If the company launches with a price that’s too high, they won’t sell enough consoles to build an audience and sell games. But if they price the Wii U too low, the company won’t be making enough money on the system. Which is very important for Nintendo this time around, as the company just had its first ever fiscal loss last year. We’ve previously heard from the company that they won’t be selling the Wii U at a loss.
