Wii U price announcement coming in September?

Another day, another analyst with opinions on the Wii U. This time, it comes from Jesse Divnich out of EEDAR, who believes that Nintendo will announce a Wii U price and release date in September. His reasoning is that Nintendo is holding back on the Wii U price announcement because of Microsoft and Sony. Those two companies will almost certainly drop the price of their consoles in response to the Wii U, but can’t do so until Nintendo reveals the Wii U price. Currently the cheapest Xbox 360 retails at $200, while the cheapest PS3 costs $250. The Wii U is expected to cost no more than $250, according to various sources.

Wii U price revealWe’ve previously heard from Nintendo that they expect the Wii U price announcement to come this Fall, but gave no specifics details. It’s easy to understand why Nintendo are keeping their cards close to their chest — as soon as the price is announced, Microsoft and Sony will respond with price cuts on their current gen consoles. That’s just the nature of the consumer electronics business. But Nintendo knows the price is much more important for another reason: selling consoles. The market isn’t what it used to be when the Wii launched back in 2006, and Nintendo knows this. Recently, president Satoru Iwata said that it was much more important to price the Wii U right than being first on the market. Which brings us to an interesting question: how important is the Wii U price to you? What’s the maximum you’d pay for a Wii U console? Let us know in the comments section!
