With the release of Japan’s Media Create sales yesterday, the Wii U has now surpassed 2 million consoles sold in Japan since its launch in 2012. The Wii U managed to rake in sales of 12k for the week ahead of Super Smash Bros. launch in Japan, which propelled the console over the two million mark by nearly 10k.

According to Nintendo’s latest financial report that was released on October, the company has managed to sell 7.29 million consoles worldwide since the launch back in 2012. Those sales figures take us right up to September 30, 2014, which is before the big holiday rush for many regions. It will be interesting to see how the Wii U performs this holiday season thanks to Super Smash Bros. and a hugely expanded catalog since the 2012 debut.
