The Wii U is still going strong in Japan after the holidays

Last week saw record sales for the Wii U in Japan, with the console selling twice as many consoles during the week of Christmas as it sold in the same period in 2014. That just goes to show what having a strong game library will do for the system, but the Wii U has continued its momentum this week with 53k sales. It’s still only the fourth best-selling console of the week, but Nintendo needs this level of sales to continue past the holiday season.

Splatoon and Mario Maker took the third and fourth spots on the chart respectively, while old favorite Mario Kart 8 made a re-appearance on the chart at number 16. See the full list of best-selling games in Japan below.
