Nintendo has confirmed that the Wii U and the portable 3DS console will be getting a unified account system via Nintendo Network. The news was revealed by a Nintendo customer representative to GoNintendo. The rep said that a unified account system will be implemented later in 2012, after the launch of the Wii U. Another feature Nintendo will implement is account system recovery, where players will be able to transfer their accounts and data to new consoles should they lose access to the other ones, in case of theft, etc. Giving users a chance to have one account for both the Wii U and 3DS will undoubtedly make things more streamlined and easy for gamers who own both systems. Or those who plan on buying both the Wii U and 3DS.
The company recently said they’ll offer Nintendo Network for free, but indicated that a paid, premium Wii U online subscription might come in the future. Nintendo Network includes such features as the Wii U eShop, Wii U Ware channels, apps such as Netflix and Hulu, and the brand new Miiverse social network. Nintendo has previously hinted at some advanced integration between the 3DS and the Wii U, where the 3DS could be used as an extra controller. We’ve yet to see anything concrete on that front, though.
