The Wii U and its GamePad controller are being inspected from every angle at publications around the world, and by now most have discovered that the GamePad carries a secret little port. Found on the bottom of the controller, the new port doesn’t fit any existing cables or accessories for the Wii U or Wii.
According to the Wii U game manual, the port is for “controller accessories”, but we have yet to see any such accessories. Of the few Wii U accessories there are, none fit the new port. Nintendo is known for including all sorts of ports in their console hardware, some which are rarely used. The GameCube had a series of ports at the bottom which were almost never used.
It’ll be interesting to see what Nintendo has in store for the GamePad with this new port. It could be some of the controller accessory patents we’ve seen in the past, which includes the famous Wii U Zapper, one of the very first Wii U items to be revealed.
