Mass Effect 3 Wii U developer: Wii U is a powerful, versatile machine

Mass Effect 3 Wii U edition box artBy now we know that the Wii U is pretty powerful — it’s got a multi-core CPU, a modern GPU, and 2 GB of RAM. But specs are are just that: they’re specs on paper. It’s a whole other thing when it comes to developers and taking advantage of those specs.

Developer Straight Right, who is handling the Mass Effect 3 Wii U port, says that the Wii U is easy to develop for and that the hardware is powerful and versatile. In a recent interview regarding the new console from Nintendo, Straight Right CEO Tom Crago said:

“We’ve really enjoyed working on the Wii U. It’s a powerful, versatile machine and fairly painless to code for. From an architecture standpoint it’s straightforward and really just allows developers to get down to the business of making games.”

He added that they feel the Mass Effect Wii U version “plays faster” because of the GamePad, and he also confirmed that the game will natively run in 720p, but will be hardware upscaled to 1080p.
