Waze now uses Google as default search engine

Google’s acquisition of waze is starting to bring fruit to the table. Google Maps has already adopted Waze’s traffic information and even the Waze mobile app is being updated now. In fact, there are some pretty big changes going on with the Android and iOS apps.

Waze-Search-box-on-MapThe new app comes with some great aesthetic improvements. It looks much sleeker and simpler, but you can also see Google’s influence come in deeper with the search engine. The search engine has been put at the front of waze, with Google being set by default. It won’t be there all the time, though (that would be a bit annoying for a map app).

The search bar will fade away after a few seconds of inactivity, clearing out the view for better map appreciation. Users can still choose between other search providers, like Bing, Foursquare and Yelp. There is no doubt Google is getting the preferential treatment, though. Which is to be expected.

And as a cherry on top you get smoother map performance and search auto-complete. Not bad for a first update after an acquisition, right? Waze was awesome already, it being google-fied just means even better things are to come. Can’t wait to see what else Google can do with Waze!

You can get the updated app straight from the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store, so go get it!
