Unreal Engine 4 update officially adds support for the Nintendo Switch

The latest update to the Unreal Engine 4, version 4.15, officially adds support for the Nintendo Switch console. This means that developers now have full support and the tools needed to make Switch games with the Unreal Engine 4.

Nintendo themselves have worked with the Unreal Engine 4 on the Switch. But not to use the engine for their games — they said they “mastered the Unreal Engine 4” mainly to make sure that it works well with the Switch.

Unreal Engine 4 is one of the most popular game engines in the world, used by a number of third party developers. It powers games like Daylight, Gears of War 4, Street Fighter V, and a number of mobile and indie games. Someone even recreated Zelda: Ocarina of Time in Unreal Engine 4.

The UE4 engine is free to use by any developer, and requires a royalty payment of 5% to Epic Games.
