Respectable UK newspaper The Guardian has awarded Mario Kart 8 the highest honor: it’s their pick for the best video game of 2014. In fact, the Wii U is well represented on The Guardian’s list: while Mario Kart 8 took the top spot, it was followed up by Bayonetta 2 at #2 — another Wii U exclusive.
One more Wii U game found its way to The Guardian’s list of the top 10 games of 2014: Super Smash Bros, which took the 8th spot.
Here’s what The Guardian had to say about Mario Kart 8:
“Regardless of the Wii U’s troubles, Nintendo remains one of (if not the) greatest developers on the planet in terms of making games that are a pure joy to play, and Mario Kart 8 is one of its finest”
And they had equally good words for Bayonetta 2:
“The sheer polish applied to every part of Bayonetta 2 is something every major studio should aspire to.”
