Ubisoft was one of the biggest supporters when the Wii U launched less than a year ago. Since then, there hasn’t been much from Ubisoft on the Wii U front — in fact, the company has yet to release a Wii U game in 2013.
But unlike EA and other third parties, Ubisoft has been a vocal supporter of the Wii U. In a recent interview with IGN, Ubisoft’s executive director Alain Corre said that they believe Wii U sales will increase. He said:
“We all think that they’ll be able to sell more machines in the future. They have some of the best IP in the world, and some of the best memories for their players”
He continued to praise Nintendo’s first party IP, saying that Nintendo brands have “tens of millions” of fans, and that once these brands reach the Wii U, sales will increase.
Wii U sales have been disappointing ever since launch. In the last quarter, Nintendo managed to sell only 160,000 units worldwide, which is about 1/4th of the sales volume the PS3 and Xbox 360 did. Sales increased with the release of Pikmin 3, which shows that gamers are interested in the console, as long as there are good games out there.
Ubisoft will be bringing several big games to the Wii U this year, including Splinter Cell Blacklist, Assassin’s Creed 4, Watch Dogs, and Rayman Legends. As for Nintendo’s first party titles, we have Zelda Wind Waker HD, Sonic Lost World, Wii Party U, and Super Mario 3D World.
