The Toshiba Chromebook has been available for pre-order for almost a couple weeks now, but it seems some changes are taking place. The Toshiba Chromebook is now available for purchase from both Amazon and Toshiba’s website. Things are still a bit unclear for Toshiba’s first Chrome OS device, though.
It seems Toshiba is a bit confused – their official website now has the laptop available for $299.99, which is $30 more than expected. Even amazon continues to sell the Toshiba Chromebook for $279.99, so we don’t know exactly what Toshiba is thinking or planning. Maybe it’s just a placeholder?
The device is also said to be shipping on February 20th from Toshiba.com, which is 4 days later than the promised Feb. 16th release date. Amazon has a wider window, saying the device will be shipped within 1-3 weeks.
Toshiba Chromebook specs and hands-on
We checked out the Toshiba Chromebook during CES 2014 and it is not a bad deal. Especially for those who are looking for a 13.3-inch Chromebook. Larger Chromebooks are a bit rare, so your only options are pretty much this one and the HP Chromebook 14. You can check out our hands-on article or just watch the video below.
- 13.3-inch 1366x768p display
- Intel Celeron processor (Haswell)
- 2 GB of RAM
- 16 GB SSD
- 2 x USB 3.0 ports
- Full-sized HDMI port
- SD card reader
- WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0
Are you buying it?
If you think this is the best Chromebook for you, you should probably jump on it and purchase it. I would probably just wait until Toshiba has it all sorted out first, though. It seems like there are many inconsistencies going on right now.
