The Legend of Zelda Wii U listed as a 2016 release

Nintendo has released its financial information, which saw some interesting fluctuations compared to last year. Alongside that, we’ve also been given a look into the future with their release plans for 2016.

The previous quarter had The Legend of Zelda Wii U listed as ‘TBC’, which means Nintendo still hasn’t decided on when to publish the game. This quarter, the game is back to being listed as a 2016 release, though no information was given about the quarter or the date. This is a bit more confidence-boosting, since it seems likely Nintendo has plans to release the title this year.

The big benefit of releasing it this year is the marketing push that could be done with the 30th anniversary of The Legend of Zelda series. Twilight Princess HD is definitely part of that celebration, but a new Zelda game could greatly benefit from the push, especially if it’s the first open-world Zelda game we’ve seen.
