Last year was the first year that video games were inducted into the newly announced World Video Game Hall of Fame. According to the organization, a committee of journalists, scholars, and industry members decide each year which games are inducted into the hall of fame based on their iconic status, geographical reach and the amount of influence they’ve had on gaming culture.

In 2015, both Super Mario Bros. and Tetris were inducted into the Hall of Fame and the 2016 shortlist also features some interesting games that deserve a place in gaming history. The NES game The Legend of Zelda is joining Sonic the Hedgehog as an honorary title, alongside other mega hits like Grand Theft Auto III, The Oregon Trail, The Sims, and Space Invaders.

What do you think of The Legend of Zelda and Sonic the Hedgehog being inducted into the Video Game Hall of Fame? Do you agree with the decision that these franchises are important to the world of gaming?
