The Fall: Unbound coming to Switch, Wii U version cancelled

Over the past few weeks, we’ve been reporting on numerous games originally destined for the Wii U that will now appear on the Nintendo Switch. Over the Moon games has posted a small update to their blog to discuss The Fall: Unbound, which is the sequel to the original game that appeared on the Wii U eShop.

We’re coming to the Nintendo Switch! This is great news obviously, but it also appears that Nintendo is switching (hah) focus to promoting that platform over the Wii U. For that reason we’ve decided to focus on resources on supporting the Switch instead of the Wii U.

As indies, we simply don’t have the luxury of supporting a platform that’s clearly being sunsetted. I was confident that we’d make it in time, but everyone’s moving on to greener pastures and we’d be fools to stay behind.

This is something that I predicted would happen way back in 2015 when the Nintendo NX was first announced and it appears as though the spate of games that start switching platforms will only increase over the next few months as more and more people begin to leave the Wii U behind.

I can’t say I blame them and I understand the decision, but it does suck for people who bought a Wii U and wanted to play games that were promised to be delivered on that platform. Did you play the original The Fall on Wii U? Will you be picking up the sequel when it’s released on Nintendo Switch?
