Kimishima is relieved that people seem to like the Switch

Amid news that the Nintendo Switch is the best-selling console for Nintendo in North America, the Wall Street Journal reports that Nintendo president Tatsumi Kimishima is pleased that people seem to like his company’s latest console effort.

“We have done a lot of things to raise awareness about how the Switch experience can offer something new, and I am just relieved that consumers seem to have accepted it.”

It sounds like Kimishima was afraid of Nintendo ending up with another Wii U, which many non-gamers and people who don’t keep up with the industry thought was just an accessory you bought for the Wii. Kimishima was one of the main dissenters about the Wii U on Nintendo’s executive board.

This comes amid sales numbers revealed by the company earlier today for several of its main franchises and hardware. Nintendo’s profits are up 520% over last year and they managed to sell 7 million Nintendo 3DS handhelds in 2016 alone.
