Switch surpasses PS2 in first-year sales in Japan

The Switch has been an incredible success for Nintendo, more so in Japan than anywhere else. Over the past few weeks, the Switch has sold more units than all other consoles combined.

Now the console has reached a new milestone in Japan: the console has surpassed first year sales of the PS2, which is the best selling console of all time.

Oddly enough, both the Switch and the PS2 were released at the beginning of March: March 3, 2017 for the Switch and March 4, 2000 for the PS2.

The Switch has now sold over 3.2 million units in Japan, the PS2 sold just over 3 million during the same time.

The PS2 eventually became the best selling video game console of all time, with over 155 million units sold.
