Oh boy, Nintendo’s not gonna like this one. The Big N’s been pretty clear that they’d like a secure platform with the Nintendo Switch (and really, what company wouldn’t?), yet that hasn’t stopped hackers from tinkering with the system. Today, various hacking teams have revealed that they have successfully begun dumping Nintendo Switch games.
The following games are now floating around online:
- The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
- Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
- ARMS
- Has Been Heroes
- Puyo Puyo Tetris
- LEGO City Undercover
The hacking community has been quietly getting stuff done, as NeoGAF user Atheerios reveals. Here’s a list of things they’ve also achieved in their efforts to crack the Switch wide open:
- Userland code execution
- Kernel has been dumped
- Cartridge dumps
- Extracting private data from games like models (data mining)
- Backing up saves and transferring them to another Switch
- Editing saves
- “Cheating” in games by modifying RAM values
That cheating bit worries us as Friday’s launch of Splatoon 2 nears, but hopefully we don’t run into any hackers. It’s interesting to see that hackers have managed to get their game saves to backup and restore on different Switch’s though, since, you know, Nintendo hasn’t allowed this yet. Maybe this will light a fire under Nintendo’s..err…laurels to get the backup feature in the hands of Switch users.
