NPD has released sales numbers for May 2017 and the chart shows that the Switch slipped to the second spot on the top selling consoles list, surpassed by the PS4. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe debuted on the second spot of the best selling games, where it was beaten by Injustice 2.
The Switch was the top selling console in March and April, but persistent shortages meant that there weren’t enough consoles to meet demand. The PS4 was the best selling console in May, followed by the Switch, and the Xbox One in third place.
On the games front, Nintendo had three games in the top 10: Mario Kart 8 Deluxe at 2, Zelda: Breath of the Wild at 4, and Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadow of Valentia at 7.
Overall, May was a good month for gaming: total video game spending was $542 million, down 11 percent compared to last year, but that’s not so bad considering that there weren’t that many new games released.
However, hardware sales grew last month thanks to the Switch.
