Strength of the Sword Kickstarter nearing Wii U goal

Occasionally I like to highlight Kickstarter games that have an interesting premise and will be coming to Wii U, either through targeting the console in their initial asking amount, or through stretch goals. Strength of the Sword has been gaining traction on Kickstarter for around a week now and the team has already received the funding they’ve asked for to make their game. They’re now nearing their Wii U stretch goal, which is set at $40,000.

The project is describes as a 3D brawler meets fighter with a big sword and rocket launcher. As you can see from the Kickstarter trailer, the combat resembles the precision from Dark Souls, while the art style reminds me of the old MediEvil game published on the original PlayStation. The team seems very ambitious with their goals and hope to create a game that includes PvP and co-op.

The PvP concept is rather interesting and seems based on how Dark Souls invasions work. The developers have described it as a way to further push yourself while doing good at PvP, as you’ll occasionally be matched against a Dark Swordsman with mysterious powers. If you manage to defeat this swordsman, you’ll get a dark token and with 3 dark tokens, you can then assume the role of the Dark Swordsman and challenge others with an entirely new set of abilities.

If this sounds interesting to you, be sure to check out the Kickstarter page as it goes into further detail about the PvP and co-op mode.
