Steamworld Heist will feature music by Steam Powered Giraffe

If you enjoyed Steamworld Dig by Image & Form when it was released last year on Nintendo 3DS or earlier this year on Wii U, you’re probably looking forward to the next installment in the series, entitled Steamworld Heist. It’s less of 2D digging game and more of a platforming roguelike, which means you’ll encounter randomly generated enemies and scenes as you play the game. The big news however, is that the developers are teaming up with Steam Powered Giraffe for the music of the game. What does that mean? Have a listen.

As you can see the music is very steampunk and heavy on electric guitar, which is a good fit for the game where you kit out a team of maniacal robots in order to explore. This is also one of the first gameplay looks we’ve gotten at the game, which seems to be coming together rather nicely. Also mentioned in the press release is the ability to collect music sheets while you’re out on missions, which will allow you to play the music you collect on the jukebox in your ship. Nifty. Image & Form developer Brjann Sigurgeirsson had this to say about the partnership:

I met with SPG at E3 in June to seal the deal, and since I love their music I have to admit I was a bit starstruck. But it turned out they loved our games as well. We’re very much alike, childish and pretty resourceful. They wear a bit more makeup at times, is all

Still no release date on the horizon yet, but we’ll keep you up to date.
