SteamWorld Heist is the next entry in the SteamWorld series from Swedish developer Image & Form. As with their first game, SteamWorld Dig, the team is targetting release on the Nintendo 3DS first, followed by a Wii U version later. According to CEO Brjann Sigurgeirsson in a recent interview, his team is hoping to launch the Nintendo 3DS version of the game by December of this year.

According to Sigurgeirsson, the team originally wanted to see the game released in December of last year, but they weren’t happy enough with the game to feel comfortable releasing it.

Initially, we wanted Heist out in December 2014, but due to constraints and just a feeling of unhappiness we decided to hold back on it because we just want to do things right, and deliver a game our team could be satisfied with. Thankfully, Steamworld Dig sustained itself so it allowed us a bit of time to make things better.

With that being said, Sigurgeirsson mentioned that despite December 2015 being the targetted release date for the Nintendo 3DS version of the game, he’s making no promises as the team will release the game once it’s been sufficiently polished.
