New Steamworld Dig 2 Q&A session with the developers now live

Steamworld Dig 2 is one of my most anticipated titles for the Nintendo Switch, so I’m always eager to see what the guys at Image & Form are working on. They’ve just uploaded a new Q&A session about the game that answers some of the burning questions fans have had about the game ahead of its release.

Most of these questions are taken from the reddit AMA they did, where fans asked over 400 questions about the game and the studio’s previous games. This isn’t a complete list of all the questions they answered about the game, but I’ve highlighted some of the more important answers from the video below.

Question: When is the game coming out?

Answer: Summer of this year.

Question: Will the game get a physical release?

Answer: Nothing to confirm at this time, but we’ve done physical before. Steamworld Collection did really well for us so we’d love to do it for Steamworld Dig 2.

Question: Any chance we will see Steamworld Dig and Steamworld Heist on Switch?

Answer: Not impossible, we would like that of course. Of course, we’re focused on Steamworld Dig 2 at the moment.

Question: Will there be a demo version?

Answer: We’ve shown a demo at multiple shows. We’ll do a bunch more this year. We don’t think we’ll release it on the eShop though because it’s an entirely different version of the game. If you really want us to release the demo, make sure you let us know you want it.

Question: Why should I play your game?

Answer: The combination of Metroidvania gameplay with resource gathering, digging, and pure platform mechanics don’t exist anywhere else. It feels really nice to jump around and run and climb. If you liked our previous games, you’ll love this game.

Question: Will Steamworld Dig 2 have HD Rumble support?

Answer: Yes.

Question: How big is Steamworld Dig 2 compared to the first one?

Answer: It’s gonna be huge. Bigger worlds, more worlds, more variation between the worlds. Play time is not going to be an issue, I can tell you that. Tricks and traps, secrets everywhere, cool boss fights. You’re going to have a lot to do. I wouldn’t say it’s the exact size as Super Metroid, but the scope of the game feels similar.

The guys from Image & Form go on to answer some of the more technical questions about the game in the rest of the video, including questions about the engine they use for the game and whether or not a soundtrack will be available to purchase outside of the game. I recommend watching it if you’re a big Steamworld fan.
