Star Fox Zero frame rate analysis shows game dip well below 60 fps

Nintendo has been targeting a steady 60 frames per second for Star Fox Zero on the Wii U. But the first analysis shows that the game can’t always keep the 60 fps, at times, it drops to as low as 40 fps.

An analysis by Digital Foundry shows that the Star Fox Zero frame rate for the most part stays at 60 frames per second, but some levels are more taxing on the hardware, resulting in frame rate drops to 50 and even to 40 fps.

Particularly, the Corneria and Sector Alpha stages seem to be the most taxing on the game, where frame rate drops to 50 on Corneria and down to 40 on Sector Alpha.

Star Fox Zero runs at a native 720p, which is 1280 x 720 pixels. On top of that, the game renders a second viewpoint for the Wii U GamePad, which runs at 850 x 480. This of course takes up some processing power, which means there isn’t always enough there to maintain 60 fps.
