Spotify web app now available from the Chrome Store

So we have a bit of good and bad news. The good news is Spotify has just released its web app and it is now available from the Chrome Web Store! The bad news is not everyone will really be able to enjoy it at its full capacity.

Spotify’s internet player is currently under closed beta everywhere except for the UK, where it is currently being offered under open beta. This means that unless you live in the UK or are signed up for the closed beta program, the Chrome app will only serve as a shortcut to Spotify’s website.

spotify-2Spotify’s new web app will serve as a great product for Chrome OS users. Until now, Spotify subscribers haven’t been able to use the service on the web-based operating system. It is available for Mac, Windows, Android, iOS and a plethora of other devices, but only as a native app. But if the release of the web app can serve as any proof, the web player should be coming to everyone else soon.

After all, Spotify is simply a cloud music player, there is no reason why it should not work from the web. Check out the web app, if you can, at the Chrome Web Store. As for the rest of us, well we can download the app and wait until we get some love.

P.S.: We know… they should have just called it Spotify.
