Splatoon has been a big hit on the Wii U. Nintendo introduced the brand new IP last year, showing the world its take on a online shooter. And they have the sales to back it up: the game has sold millions on the Wii U, which is all that more impressive when you think just how many (or how few) Wii U consoles are out there.
Now Splatoon producer Hisashi Nogami has hinted at a possible Splatoon sequel. In an interview with GamesMaster magazine, Nogami talked about Splatoon and its multiplayer, saying that “If we have the chance in the future, I’d like to build on online gameplay even more”.
“We want to raise this new IP with care, so maybe we’ll get a chance to make it happen if players support us.”, he added, suggesting that a sequel is possible of there is support.
And of course there’s support: Splatoon has sold over 4 million units to date. Since there are 12 million Wii U consoles out there, it means that 1 in 3 Wii U owner purchased Splatoon. That’s an amazing attach rate, and any publisher would be foolish not to make a sequel.
Of course, Nintendo is known for taking their time, so we might have to wait until 2020 for Splatoon 2. Hopefully not.
