Splatoon took less than a month to reach 1 million sales worldwide, but it reached another milestone within Japan recently. Up until now, the highest grossing chart on the Japanese Wii U eShop was always Dragon Quest X, an MMORPG exclusive to the Wii U in Japan. It’s been the bestselling title since it launched and none of Nintendo’s titles have dethroned it, until now.
There’s no official sales numbers for either title on the Wii U eShop, so we don’t know how many copies were sold before the bump happened, but we do know that Splatoon managed to move 57k units digitally just a few weeks ago, so that gives us some idea of how eShop sales have impacted sales in Japan. Either way, Splatoon is a hit both in Japan and the West.
