Sony patent looks like the Nintendo Switch console

A Sony patent filed for a mobile games console back in 2015 was recently published and it looks familiar. Very familiar, with a widescreen display flanked by two controllers.

The patent pretty much shows the concept behind the Switch console, which Nintendo has extensively patented as well.

Although in Sony’s case, it appears that the controllers are not removable, and are definitely based on the PlayStation DualShock controller.

It’s unlikely that the patent will be approved, considering that the Switch is gearing up for release and that Nintendo likely filed its patents well before 2015.

And even if approved, this probably won’t see the light of day, since Sony has all but exited from the portable games market with the PlayStation Vita.

But for now, we’ll call this patent the “PlayStation Shift”.
