Sonic Team is working on a game that is not Sonic Boom

With the announcement of Sonic Boom, the Sonic characters and universe were almost completely redesigned to fit in with the cartoon series that will be accompanying the game. The new look for the characters is from Big Red Button, a team that is working closely with the core Sonic Team to make sure the game fits within the standards of the Sonic series. A new piece of information has revealed that Sonic Team themselves are also working on a game that we could see more information on later this year.

The news was revealed in an interview with Takashi Iizuka, who spoke about the Zelda DLC that was designed for Sonic Lost World. Iizuka said he was pleased to be able to incorporate the music and feeling of The Legend of Zelda series into Sonic Lost World and that the team needed about three months in order to create the two DLC levels. These are available for free for anyone who already owns the game.

Now that the team has finished their work on the DLC, they’re moving on to their new project that will be revealed later this year. Since Sonic Boom is not being released in Japan, it’s likely this game will focus more on the traditions of the Sonic series, rather than multiple playable characters as the Sonic Boom reveal has shown.
