Sonic Lost World is headed our way in just a few days, though this isn’t the first 3D title we’ve seen the blue hedgehog in. The game’s producer Takashi Iizuka has admitted in an interview that past 3D Sonic games weren’t exactly great because the team struggled with converting the levels and environments to 3D.

“Yes there was a struggle in 3D Sonic games. From the 1st 3D type Sonic game Sonic Adventure, we tried various levels and environment in 3D. This is because we felt there is more possibility for improvement in 3D type Sonic. So in Sonic Colors and Sonic Generations, we added new gameplay on top of the existing Sonic titles to make a high quality game.”

It’s interesting to see the producer admit there were faults with previous Sonic entries, as one of the titles that has received the most hate is the 2006 title Sonic the Hedgehog. The team seems to have found good ground with titles like Sonic Colors and Sonic Generations however, so here’s to hoping that Sonic Lost World will follow that trend with good gameplay presented in a 3D style.
