A new blog post from SEGA has detailed new information about the upcoming Sonic Boom for both Nintendo 3DS and the Wii U. Both games will offer completely different experiences with unique storylines instead of the Nintendo 3DS version being a dumbed down copy of the console version. The Wii U game’s full title is Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric and makes use of Crytek’s engine in order to render details.

The Wii U version is being developed by Big Red Button and will feature intense combat and new abilities like the Enerbeam, giving players a new way to navigate the world. The Nintendo 3DS version is being developed by Sanzaru Games and will be titled Sonic Boom: Shattered Crystal. This standalone game will share all the lore and characters from the Sonic Boom universe, but players will be able to experience gameplay as the recently unveiled character Sticks.

SEGA America’s chief content officer Hiroyuki Miyazaki is especially pleased with the direction of both games, stating:

“This is a new Sonic, with gameplay built on action-adventure and collaborative play. They are unlike any previous games featuring the iconic blue blur. We are looking forward to our first hands-on showcase at E3 for fans old and new alike to experience the exploration, combat and new moves for the entire team.”
