Some Breath of the Wild players are cheating the amiibo timer

One of the unique aspects of Breath of the Wild on both the Wii U and the Nintendo Switch is the amiibo support that’s included. There are several new amiibo released alongside the game, but there’s also a handful of older amiibo like Toon Link, Zelda, Sheik, Ganondorf, and more that grant special items and effects.

The only caveat to this system is that you can only get the special unlock once every 24 hours. Nintendo put this restriction into place to prevent you from becoming OP with amiibo loot, but as always some clever players are figuring out ways to get around the restriction. One way is to savescum, or to quit the game when you scan the amiibo and it doesn’t have the chest you want.

The other way is to set the Switch’s internal clock ahead by a day in order to get another attempt. Of course, Animal Crossing players are likely very familiar with this method. Fortunately, there’s no Resetti the Mole to gripe at you for your illicit ways in the game, so if you feel like scanning your amiibo until you get those elusive outfits, go right ahead.
