If you’ve been following the site for some time, you know we’re super excited about Earthlock: Festival of Magic. The game is currently seeking funding on Kickstarter and will be one of the first JRPG style games available for the Wii U when it’s finally released. The team has about 15 days to go on their Kickstarter and they’ve raised around half the funds needed. If you’ve been holding off pledging your support for the game, now is the time to get your questions answered!

Some of the answers that have been given so far are highly interesting, especially considering this is a team of Westerners developing a traditional JRPG. One redditor wanted to know about the exploration in the game, to which the team answered:

We love exploration and discovery ourselves and we will try and put a lot of it into Earthlock. We have a classic overworld where exploration is key, where by going out into dangerous territory will yield new secret locations or side quests. You will also be able to explore new territory as your boat “Reckless” gets upgraded with new features to traverse different terrain.

Another question that was asked is how the team plans on reducing the repetitiveness of combat that can sometimes come with JRPGS.

One of the features we have designed into the combat to fight the repetitiveness is our elemental combination system. This is a system where using different elements on an enemy will chain the effects together to create a more powerful attack. For example you can do a FireAttack with Amon and then a WindAttack with Ive which will combine together into a FireTornado. There will be many different such combinations to find and depending on the elemental defense of the enemy the attacks may behave differently.

Overall, the team is answering all design and inspiration questions, so if you have a question for the team, be sure to pop over to the reddit thread here.
