Project CARS is a game that has long been looked forward to for Wii U racing fans, mostly because the development team has had great praise for the Wii U in the past. Despite delaying the Wii U version in order to release the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions early, Slightly Mad Studios is still hard at work on the Wii U version. Developer Andy Tudor says that the Wii U version won’t hit the performance standard of 1080p and 60fps that might be possible on the other consoles, however.

With the Wii U port due out next year. It won’t hit the performance highs of the Xbox One and PS4 versions, though Tudor is happy with the progress Slightly Mad is making.

So what’s holding the Wii U version back? Well, Tudor doesn’t go into huge details in terms of performance on the Wii U or any of the other consoles, but he does say that developing for the Wii U has been a challenge the team has lived up to in terms of what’s being delivered in the package.

There are significant hurdles that we’ve had to get over, and that’s kind of expected. But the fact we can have weather, time of day, a significant number of cars on screen, it’s actually really promising.

So while the Wii U version may not be 1080p, it looks like it will still have all the frills you expect from a gorgeous game. The only question is whether or not the gameplay holds up, especially considering the game manages to mix multiple racing types in its selection of cars.
