Sega acknowledges they let fans down with buggy games

Sega hasn’t had the best track record with several of their titles over the past few years, especially in regards to the Sonic franchise. In a recent interview with Famitsu, CEO Hajime Satomi had some interesting things to say about that. In fact, the boss goes on to admit that if they can’t release products with the quality that consumers demand, they probably shouldn’t be releasing anything at all.

Iā€™ve been talking to the employees about how we should start putting serious consideration into quality from this point on,ā€ responds Satomi. ā€œEspecially in North America and Europe, where itā€™s always been more of a focus on schedules, I believe that if we canā€™t maintain quality, it would be better to not release anything at all.

He goes on further to admit that in the last ten years, there have been a lot of titles that have hurt consumer trust and while he doesn’t name any specifically, fans probably still remember the sting of the Aliens: Colonial Marines fiasco, as well as how bad Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric was upon its initial release.

We did our best to build a relationship of mutual trust with older fans of Sega, but looking back, thereā€™ve been some titles that have partially betrayed that [trust] in the past 10 years.

Whether these are just corporate platitudes to try and get back into good graces with fans remains to be seen. What do you think?
