Rocket League supports Switch / Xbox One / PC cross play. But no PS4.

Earlier today developer Psyonix announced that Rocket League is coming to the Switch and that it will have cross play. Now they’ve elaborated on that: the Switch version will have full cross play support with Xbox One and PC.

Which means that Switch players will be able to play with and against players on the Xbox One and PC. However, Sony declined to participate in the cross play with the PS4.

Another game with cross play support, Minecraft, will make it possible for Switch, Xbox One, and PC players to play together. And again, Sony refused to participate.

Why is Sony not interested? Sony boss Jim Ryan told Eurogamer that “it’s a commercial discussion between ourselves and other stakeholders”. In other words, they have the lead in the console generation and they want to take full advantage of that.

Rocket League will be released on the Switch this Fall. It will retail for $20 just like on other platforms.
