Nintendo has been toying with its odd “Quality of Life” project for a while now, going back to the Wii days with the Wii Heart Rate Monitor. They briefly talked about the project last year, but it now seems that this project is dead.
That’s according to Japanese newspaper Nikkei. And the report came with some consequences: Nintendo’s shares dropped 5% after the news went live.
Nikkei reports that Nintendo’s partner on the project, Panasonic, withdrew from the Quality of Life project back in March, which forced Nintendo to pull the plug, apparently.
Almost all big companies have these sorts of projects, but very few turn into actual consumer products, so it’s not a big surprise that this didn’t pan out — it’s the price of doing business and innovating.
