Reggie talks Wii U and how it fits in the current marketplace

Reggie Wii U interview

Nintendo’s Reggie Fils-Aime recently did a video interview with the Wall Street Journal, where he talks about the Wii U and Nintendo’s position in the video game business in today’s world.

He was asked where Nintendo fits in the current world of mobile, tablets, and video game consoles. Reggie said that Nintendo is in a good position because they appeal to a very wide range of gamers. He said:

“We have a very broad audience base, from age 6 to 60 in terms of the content we appeal to from an age standpoint. By providing these unique and differentiated experiences, we can appeal to this diverse base”.

He used Bayonetta 2 as an example, pointing out that it’s an M-rated game, targeted at the core gamer, and Mario Kart 8, which is targeted at the whole family. “Having a broad range of entertainment, we’re able to attract a broad range of players”, Reggie said.

Reggie also pointed out that Nintendo is an advantage when it comes to mobile, since the 3DS has games that no other mobile device has, again, stressing that content is what separates Nintendo from everyone else.
