Splatoon is headed to the Wii U in May and Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime has a few thoughts on the game before it hits. In a recent interview he stated that Nintendo’s new IP is “aiming to do for action shooters what Mario Kart did for racing.” In a recent interview, Fils-Aime noted that the game is more than just getting kills and winning, as it’s designed to be fun for all ages.

The slow trickle of updates we’ve seen from Nintendo concerning the various weapons and equipment have been a great introduction to the game before we get our hands on it. Despite this, it’ll be interesting to see how well the game does at launch, since it’s an entirely new IP that doesn’t have the same history as other Nintendo franchises.
