Reggie discusses cloud saves and future IPs on Switch

Nintendo has been busy promoting the Switch during its launch week, which is why we’ve got this nice little video of Reggie Fils-Aime sitting down with Katie Linendoll to discuss the future of the console. Katie asked him some interesting questions about things that have happened recently in the Switch ecosystem, so you might want to pay attention.

The TL;DW for you:

  • Katie asks Reggie why some third-party games like RiME are priced higher on Switch than on other consoles. Reggie said Nintendo has nothing to do with this decision and that’s entirely on third-parties.
  • Reggie also mentions that The Legend of Zelda IP has always been a more Western-leaning property that doesn’t sell extremely well in Japan, but Breath of the Wild has changed that and the game is killing it in every territory.
  • Katie specifically asked him about cloud saves and while he wouldn’t confirm or deny anything, he said “Wouldn’t that be wonderful? Stay tuned.”
  • Reggie was also asked about the possibility of big franchises like Animal Crossing and Super Smash Bros. appearing on the Nintendo Switch. He didn’t confirm anything, but said “our philosophy at Nintendo is to have one great experience of each franchise on each console. So in the future, who knows when, you can anticipate all our big franchises will be addressed.”
