Nintendo has released a new Mario Kart 8 Wii U ad in Japan, and while at first glance it appears to be just another Wii U ad, there is something quite interesting to notice.
At about the 0:07 mark in the video below, an out of focus Wii U GamePad is shown, and it looks very different from the current GamePad. It looks smaller with a larger screen. However, later in the video (at 0:23), it appears that he’s holding the regular GamePad again. Since these commercials are shot out of sequence, they could have been using different GamePads for different shots.
But if we have to put on our Critical Thinking Hat on, maybe the man just has large hands, or he holds the GamePad in a certain way that makes it appear smaller. The larger screen could be as a result of being out of focus — things that glow out of focus tend to appear larger.
Either way, a redesigned GamePad could be great news for Wii U owners. Among the new iPads and other tablets, the GamePad looks rather bulky. And the battery life could use an improvement as well.
